Weingut Knoll – Riesling Loibner Federspiel – 2022

Probably one of the simplest versions of Riesling produced by the Knoll winery, but of considerable importance and quite representative. It comes from rather sloping vineyards with alluvial soils, where working in the vineyard is somewhat impossible by mechanical means. The wine underwent vinification in wooden barrels and then continued aging in steel tanks. This is a wine with good complexity despite not coming from the single vineyard Grand Cru, but it perfectly represents the old school style of the winery. The aromas initially have more fruity notes, tending to vegetal with some nuances of tropical fruit, in the mouth it has a very crisp acidity and is medium-bodied. I recommend drinking this wine slowly, even opening it an hour before, otherwise if you are patient open this wine in 2-3 years to enjoy it to the fullest.

Description

We are in Wachau, an area particularly suited to wine production in the most extreme part of Austria, here since 1825 the Knoll family with extreme humility has been producing such great traditional wines that it is considered one of the most respectable and historic wineries in the area. Old-time values distinguish this winery, where attention to detail in the vineyard, have become indispensable for the production of authentic and representative wines. The production is rather limited to 150000 bottles divided in 15 hectares of vineyards mainly cultivated with Riesling and Gruner Veltliner, typical grapes of this area, there is also a small part of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Yellow Muscat and Traminer. As already mentioned, the style of the winery is very traditional, in fact the wines are released at least one year after the harvest and are vinified in large wooden barrels, giving complex results with extreme longevity. Do not make the mistake of drinking these wines young!!!
