Mazzone – Bombino Bianco Terre Bianche – 2022

One of the wines that particularly impressed me from the Mazzone winery is the ” Terre Bianco,” a majestic Bombino Bianco vinified in purity really in line with the characteristics of this native Apulian grape. Also because it is not easy to find this white vinified in white, usually this grape lends itself to sparkling wine making having a marked acidity. The winery produces only 5,000 bottles of this variety, where it was vinified and aged only in steel tanks just to enhance the freshness. You will find a very enjoyable Apulian white, pleasant but not banal, white fruits and pear are the main aromas, while in the mouth besides the nice acidity, it is slightly soft and salty on the finish.

Description

The Mazzone family produces crazy labels and wines, out of the ordinary in elegance and cleanliness. The winery was founded in 1978 in Ruvo di Puglia, a Murgia territory inland from Bari; initially it was a true farm, where olive groves and orchards were more important than the vineyard. To see the first label on the market, we have to wait until 2004, thanks to the entry into the company of his son Francesco, who gave a turn to the history of the Mazzone family, first graduated in oenology and then began to invest the money to build a real winery. From the first Malvasia label, the winery had several successes, such as expanding production with indigenous grape varieties such as Nero di Troia, Minutolo and Bombino Bianco, to the organic conversion in 2016; today, however, the winery produces just over 30000 bottles a year, remaining niche despite having expanded its sales market.
