Ettore Germano – Barolo Cerretta – 2016

A Barolo that sums up the history of the family, which since the beginning has owned vineyards in the Cerretta locality, now considered one of the most important mentions of Serralunga due to its location. A few hectares in perfect southeastern exposure with vineyards with an average age of 50 years that due to the very calcareous soils are synonymous with structured and tannic wines. Grapes fermented and macerated on the skins 40-45 days with continuous pumping over in steel tanks where immediately after malolactic fermentation it is aged in barrels for 24 months before resting another 24 months in the bottle. A wine of strength typical of the area, with aromas of tobacco and spices with an energetic, enveloping drink that releases hard, dry tannins.

Description

Four generations have succeeded one another at the helm of the Ettore Germano winery over the decades, demonstrating an egregious ability to make wine. The winery has been located in Serralunga d’Alba, one of the communes of the Barolo appellation, since 1856 where the Germano family from being simple grape contributors became producers only beginning to bottle in 1975. In fact it was with Ettore Germano that they expanded production by buying new land, planting new native and allochthonous vines then starting a real business in 1988. They own 19 hectares between Serralunga and Cigliè in Alta Langa where they produce numerous labels such as Bollicine, Riesling and Barbera but it is Barolo that is the real focus mainly because of the hectares distributed in the best Cru of the commune such as Cerretta, Prapò, Lazzarito and Vignarionda. In the sense of great respect for the environment no chemicals are used but only natural ones, a lot of work in the vineyard so as to obtain healthy clusters, in the cellar a continuous research in techniques during vinification, aging in large barrels and the use of the screw cap to increase aromas and longevity in some wines. Today at the helm is son Sergio Germano along with his wife, who continue to pass on the true traditional values of a Langa family under a modern profile.
