Cheval Des Andes – Mendoza – 2018

Highly experienced, he is a native of Bordeaux where he has managed Chateau Cheval Blanc, a milestone and historical landmark of the region, for years, and a pioneer in Latin America by founding Terrazas de los Andes, in fact the new reality is nothing more than a fusion of the two inheriting the mentality from the French and precision viticulture from the Argentines. All efforts are focused on Malbec of which he is not only a fervent admirer but an unrenounceable opportunity presented itself to them by purchasing old vines with even ungrafted plants dating back to 1929, later after careful checks and studies he planted both Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot considered the perfect varieties for a blend. The choices were not random, we are talking about an unspoiled area at prohibitive altitudes where phylloxera has never arrived thanks to cold climates and soils naturally drained by water channels where there are suitable conditions for wines with a rigorous mold. Work in relationship with nature, use of animals and natural methods in the vineyard differ according to the parcel so as to facilitate each plot, little interventionism is the key, in the cellar we proceed with the same savoir-faire performing fermentations in wooden vats and aging in French and Austrian barriques. Just as the name represents the union of two visions, a new concept, the birth of the first Grand Cru of the Andes.

Description

It can be said that the marriage of two great things can only lead to the creation of something of pure sublimity, here we are talking about the meeting of France and Argentina, two cultures that created Cheval des Andes. The winery was founded in 1999 in Mendoza at the Lujan de Cuyo area, one of the main and renowned sites for viticulture, a genuine dream that became a long-term project by its founder Pierre Lurton with the aim of producing the best wine in South America.
