Description

The Burlotto winery is located in the center of the small town of Verduno, a cooler area north of the Barolo production area, rich in sandy and mineral soils, famous for giving great elegance and refinement to Barolo nebbiolos. Probably the village of Verduno is not one of the best known or renowned in the Langa, not a passing place! But perhaps few know that linked to this small village there is a lot of history! It was in the very cellars of the castle of the royal house of Savoy that the nebbiolo that later became Barolo was first vinified. Another illustrious person from Verduno was Giovanni Battista Burlotto himself, who in 1850 founded the winery of the same name, contributing precisely to the fame of Barolo wine. Numerous medals were awarded for his Nebbiolo, but the winery is best remembered for being the only one to supply the Duke of Abruzzi on the famous Arctic expedition to the North Pole. The story continues in the present day with the sixth generation, piloted by Fabio, who graduated with 110 honors in oenology, continues to produce wines with the same passion and philosophy as his family. The winery today has 15 hectares of property, 12 of which are in the commune of Verduno vinified mainly with nebbiolo da Barolo in the celebrated Monvigliero vineyard. Also of value, the family has owned since the 1970s less than one hectare in Barolo’s most famous vineyard: Cannubi. In short, a historical heritage that envelops the Burlotto family. Highly sought-after wines, but produced with the same humility and traditionality as in the past.
