Description

In every grape, in every important wine we always find that story, that figure who made it so, in the case of Verdicchio it was Ampelio Bucci who we could define as the “Dad” of this vine or in any case the one who enhanced it and made it known to the world. The Bucci family has been cultivating the grape since the 1700s in the Castelli di Jesi area, it was not until 1983 that the Villa Bucci winery was founded in Ostra Vetere near Ancona at the behest of Ampelio, who courageously decided to revolutionize viticulture in the Marche region. Realizing the importance and potential of Verdicchio, after travels and experiences in Burgundy he was convinced to give the wine a new imprint by introducing wood in aging that had never been used until then. In fact, it was in this way that following French teachings he bought a parcel of old rows convinced of the higher quality of the clusters depending on the age of the plant in a specific terroir making a selection of the best clones together with his oenologist Giorgio Grai to plant again and produce the first bottles. An undisputed success right from the start that improved over the years by taking care of the property, today with 31 hectares under vine Montepulciano and Sangiovese are cultivated in addition to Verdicchio by applying natural, non-invasive agronomic practices and environmental sustenance preserving woods, flora and fauna that made the estate obtain organic certification. In the winery built in 1930 there is little interventionism, steel tanks are used in winemaking with indigenous yeasts and large centuries-old barrels never replaced for aging so as to preserve the essence of the wine itself. Refinement has never stopped within those walls where each successive vintage tells a new story related to the past of one of the most acclaimed Italian white wines in the world.
