Benito Ferrara – Taurasi Vigna Quattro Confini – 2018

A wine that has made a comeback in the last 20 years on the Italian and international scene, Taurasi has proven to be a great rediscovery for southern wines so much so that it is protected by DOCG in specific production boundaries and has earned the nickname “Barolo of the South” because of its captivating structure and longevity. It is made from 100% Aglianico grapes from the Quattro Confini vineyard from the oldest plants with more than 30 years, the full southern exposure and the altitude around 700 meters are decisive for having freshness and complexity in the aromas increased by the soils of volcanic origin. The harvest is late due to the climatic conditions, the vinification of the grapes are made in steel containers for a few days, malolactic and refinement on the other hand are carried out in barriques for 30 months with subsequent rest in bottles for at least 6 months. The result is tempting to taste, aromas of berries are released with floral and spicy notes in the following minutes, the palate is enveloping and warm in which an interesting minerality stands out followed by well-balanced soft tannins.

Description

The Benito Ferrara winery is a family situation, but it has rather historical origins, in fact since the last century the family has been producing wine. The winery was founded in the early 1900s by Benito, a young entrepreneur who was among the first to understand the importance of vineyards in the Tufo area, now managing the winery with its 8 hectares is his daughter Gabriella. They produce mainly white wines such as Greco di Tufo at 600 meters above sea level, Fiano d’Avellino and red Aglianico. The winery is recognized worldwide for its quality wines. A true boutique!
