Ugo Lequio – Barbaresco Gallina Riserva – 2016

Barbaresco Gallina Riserva comes from the vineyard having the same name located in the commune of Neive, which has always been considered one of the most prestigious vineyards thanks to its southern exposure and soils rich in minerals/white marl giving the wines good structure as well as finesse. Riserva is produced only in the best vintages in a very limited number of bottles, with the oldest vines being 70 years old and yields as low as 45 quintals per hectare. The wine is obviously aged for a longer period of 24 months in large wooden casks and 24 months in bottle. A wine with a huge potential thanks to its structure and acidity, with more spicy and intense aromas. A wonderful wine, with character and shoulder, but very pleasing and smooth Wine to keep absolutely.

Description

Ugo Lequio, a humble wine producer, is someone who has done the hard work, he got his hands dirty as I like to define him, and still today after 40 years of experience as a farmer and wine producer he keeps his feet on the ground and tries every year to make great wines with the only purpose of respecting the natural times of wines. The winery owns 6 hectares of vineyards mainly located in the commune of Neive where the winery is located, Treiso and Guarene.
Undoubtedly the main grape variety used in the winery is Nebbiolo where they produce two excellent Barbareschi wines with almost 70 years old vines in the first category Gallina vineyard, famous for its south position and for giving wines of great structure but among the most elegant ones. Obviously in the winery is also given space to wines defined as simpler such as Barbera and Arneis white berried grapes, vinified with traditional techniques and put on the market only when the wines are good and ready. Genuine wines, made in very few quantities but with an exquisiteness and refinement that nowadays is really hard to find.
