Salvetta – Nosiola Vigneti delle Dolomiti – 2018

A grape with ancient origins, Nosiola, so called because of the hazelnuts that grow nearby, has chosen Trentino Alto Adige as its natural habitat. With its unique qualities, it was abandoned to the detriment of increasingly popular international varieties, but was rediscovered and saved from extinction thanks to visionary winemakers who realised its potential. The only grape grown by the Salvetta winery, the vineyards are located at an altitude of around 250 m to the south, where the Guyot system produces few bunches, increasing quality. After a soft pressing, the grapes are fermented in contact with the skins in acacia barrels, remaining on the lees for several months and then refined in the bottle for the same number of months. The result is a special wine, with fruity aromas surrounded by hints of hazelnuts where the drink expresses freshness with a good structure and acidity that shows good aging capabilities.

Description

Tiny and unknown, the Salvetta winery is located in Valle del Sarca in Trentino Alto Adige, a wine-growing area that has been famous for centuries for its mountain climate, thanks to the river Sarca and Mount Casale. It was Dario Salvetta who founded the family business in the 1930s, acquiring vineyards and handing down the ancient origins to this day, which have been taken up with enthusiasm by his grandson and current owner Giancarlo Salvetta. An area of alluvial soils cared for using organic methods, certified since 2012, and new Guyot training systems shielded by boundary walls that have allowed the revitalisation of native grapes such as Nosiola. Old methods that take us back to a time of hard work in the vineyards and waiting during vinification for greater aromatic expression. Such courage and perseverance shape the spirit of these small wineries.
