Ricasoli – Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Colledilà – 2018

We are located in the Cru of Monte Morello, in the south-west area, with 100% Sangiovese grapes coming from the Colledilà vineyard. This area is characterized by a very stony soil made of clay and limestone, known as Alberese, which makes it very compact and hard. After a meticulous hand selection of the best grapes, they are fermented and macerated in steel tanks on skins for 14-16 days. Aging is done for about 22 months in first and second passage tonneaux, before being bottled and allowed to rest for as long as necessary. Although 2018 was a complicated vintage due to the weather, we find a compound of harmony and complexity, rich in red fruit aromas, with persistent tannin on the finish. This wine is the result of a great balance in the sign of quality.

Description

A part of the history of Italian and worldwide wine can be summarized in two simple words: Baron Ricasoli. The history of this glorious family dates back to 1141, when written witnesses attested their settlement in the castle of Brolio, in Gaiole in Chianti, in the heart of Tuscany. During the course of the centuries their name has been indissolubly bound to the world of wine. It was with the figure of Baron Bettino Ricasoli in the 1800’s that history was written, as he recognized in Sangiovese grape the base of the formula for the production of Chianti wines. Thanks to the current owner Francesco Ricasoli, in 1993 was introduced for the first time the “Zonation”, that is the classification of lands in Cru, together with studies and experiments about the different types of soil, leading the business towards new challenges. The winery includes about 1200 hectares of property, of which 240 are vineyards, and it is one of the oldest family-owned wineries in the world. Their philosophy is based on the continuous research of quality, through selection and low yields, of the biotype of Sangiovese di Brolio, all in an eco-sustainable environment which makes it express its maximum potential. Winemaking is done in small steel vats, separated for each vineyard, with delicate pressing in order to extract the noble substances from skins. Aging is done in casks of different sizes, according to the desired product, followed by long aging in bottle. A millennium of history made of perseverance and passion where past and future are combined by a glorious tradition.
