Riboli – Barbera d’Asti Superiore 9 Filari – 2013

The winery’s most important and representative bottle, just as the name implies, is made from the Nine rows of Barbera present when the property was purchased. These are the oldest vineyards with 50 years of age with very low yields, the soils are clay and limestone for wines with a strong imprint. Grapes harvested in the morning that are submerged cap fermented in temperature-controlled steel tanks for 15 days with daily pumping over, aging on the skins 2 months in steel and then in used barriques for 24 months then several years in the bottle. Only 900 bottles produced in the best vintages, a striking wine with evolved hints of red fruit and underbrush, it is fresh and full-bodied in which there is an enveloping and persistent acidity.

Description

In Monferrato, in Sessame in the province of Acqui Terme, stands the Riboli family winery, in one of the most vocated areas for the production of Barbera. Founded in the early 2000s, they are not the classic winery with generations of history behind them; in fact, they bought 6 hectares of land with an old farmhouse, one hectare of Moscato and nine rows of Barbera inside. Today it is run by Marco Riboli together with his sons Roberto and Riccardo, they went from being grape sellers in the early years to being producers with their first label released in 2013. During the new decade they have decided to aim higher and higher by planting and expanding production, also beginning a true enhancement of Barbera trying to bring out its potential in various ages from the youngest to the most aged version. A traditional and young matrix is followed, selections and thinning in the vineyard, vinification without invasive interventions, aging in used wood barrels and long rests in the bottle depending on the vintage to extrapolate the purity of the details. Authentic, territorial and innovative!
