Poderi Luigi Einaudi – Barolo Terlo Vigna Costa Grimaldi – 2016
Terlo was the first vineyard purchased in 1958 by Luigi Einaudi in Barolo, with the aim of finally producing Barolo wine from his own vines and not limiting himself to purchasing grapes. Facing southeast at an altitude of 350 meters, it enjoys marly and clayey soils, giving the Nebbiolo grapes a good part of their aromatic bouquet, well-balanced tannins perfectly integrated with acidity. The vines in this case are almost 50 years old. The wine was vinified in temperature-controlled concrete tanks, then aged in large oak barrels for 24 months and two years in the bottle. Production is 9,000 bottles per year. A very harmonious Barolo, with subtle notes of violet and balsamic aromas, it is fresh and crisp on the palate with good structure.

Description
A historic cradle of Piedmontese roots and part of Italian political history is represented by Podere Luigi Einaudi, a historic winery founded by the man who would become the first President of the Italian Republic. Luigi Einaudi founded his company in 1915 in Dogliani. An economist and farmer at heart, despite his future political activity in Rome, it is said that he never missed a harvest with his family. Pragmatic and intuitive, he decided to entrust the management of his estates to sharecroppers. In fact, he was one of the first to focus entirely on agriculture, understanding that he could lift Piedmont out of crisis by facilitating and providing work for local people, exploiting the region’s natural resources. His contribution was also enormous, for example, grafting vine shoots onto American vines to combat phylloxera and promoting the mechanization of the countryside to facilitate work times. After his death, the winery was managed by his children until today, with the presence of his grandson Matteo Sardagna Einaudi. This dedication has yielded great results over the years: the creation of the Dogliani DOCG in 2006 gave it an identity and brought its typical grape variety, Dolcetto, to the world! Not only that, but with the new generations, properties in the Barbaresco and Barolo areas have been purchased and expanded to produce the renowned and austere Nebbiolo in its various forms of designation and expression, enhancing the quality of their land. The style in the cellar is very traditional, without neglecting cutting-edge techniques for cleaning and vinification. Temperature-controlled concrete tanks, indigenous yeasts, and large oak barrels are still used. The beauty of a heritage that symbolizes Italy throughout the world.
