Poderi Luigi Einaudi – Barolo Monvigliero – 2019

Barolo Monvigliero is indicative of incredible quality in the Einaudi selection, the latest label to be included and officially presented with the 2018 vintage for 125 years of history. The most renowned hill in the municipality of Verduno since time immemorial, an exemplary vineyard for Baroli with incredible finesse and freshness thanks to the total southern exposure and predominant sandy soils. The age of the vines is over 50 years, low yields with further selection of the grapes which is why only a few thousand bottles are produced, vinifications are made in cement vats on the skins for 25 days then aging for 24 months in large oak barrels. Truly a magnificent wine, for any time of the year, very enveloping in aromas with red fruit and spice, in the mouth it is well balanced with vibrant acidity and pleasant tannins. For the occasion, it was decided to create just for this wine an artistic label in homage to the Renaissance painter Giulio Romano depicting a “Horse on columns” to symbolize the strength and connection with their land.

Description

Podere Luigi Einaudi is the historical winery founded by the first President Luigi Einaudi in the town of Dogliani. Despite his political activity in Rome, he never missed any harvest, and he entrusted the management of his farms and vineyards to sharecroppers.
He was one of the first to bet everything on agriculture, realizing he could lift his home Piedmont from the crisis by giving work to local people to manage his lands. Since his death, the winery was managed by his sons and nephews, up to now with the presence of his nephew Matteo Sardagna Einaudi. The winery made history by aiming high and by bringing in the world the typical Dogliani’s grape: Dolcetto!
With the new generations they bought farms in the area of Barbaresco and Barolo in order to produce the renowned and austere Nebbiolo in its different forms of appellation. The style in the cellar is rather traditional leaving room for some avant-garde techniques for the cleaning and vinification of the wine, such as the temperature controlled cement tanks.
