Nervi – Gattinara Vigna Valferana – 2019

Valferana was mentioned as a single vineyard for the first time in 1974, always known as an excellent plot for the production of nebbiolo thanks to the soils particularly rich in magnesium giving wines of good structure with gentler aromas. The wine as per tradition carries out vinification in oak barrels and aging for at least 3 years in large barrels and part in cement tanks. Another example of great nebbiolo, rich in red fruit aromas and small notes of underbrush with more delicate tannins but great persistence.

Description

This is the most historic winery in Gattinara, founded in 1906 by Luigi Nervi, it was passed down for generations until in 2018 it was bought by Roberto Conterno owner of the prestigious Giacomo Conterno winery, famous for Barolo Riserva Monfortino, giving the brand a real international boost. Traditions combined with new ideas to make quality wines in an area like the upper Piedmont with soils of volcanic origin and cool-dry climates due to the presence of Monte Rosa, Nebbiolo has been able to adapt giving aromatic, complex and very mineral wines. There are 24 hectares divided into four estate vineyards Molsino, Valferana, Garavoglie and Casacce managed with the utmost respect for the land and low yields in the vineyards, while traditional methods are adopted in the winery along with innovative systems. A magical territory back in the limelight.
