Movia – Puro – 2011

Among the novelties of his selections certainly stands out the “Puro” series, unique bubbles where disgorging is done at the opening, limited quantities. Made with Ribolla and Chardonnay grapes from vineyards located in both Italy and Slovenia where limestone soils and cool climates give excellent ripeness. Grapes fermented in steel tanks and then go on to age 48 months in small barrels before being bottled for the second fermentation in the bottle not before adding 7% of the grape juice from the current vintage in place of liqueur de expedition. An offbeat bottle in every sense, tropical sensations of wide variety with a full, enveloping drink that lingers into a harmonious, lingering, mineral finish.

Description

A 100-year history, the Movia winery is attributed its birth in 1820 when it was bought by the Kristancic family, which began wine production. It is located in Collio halfway between Italy and Slovenia, a borderland that saw it play a leading role in old Yugoslavia during the Tito years as the main supplier of wine in his regime. Now the winery, led by Alesh Kristancic, has 25 hectares in which Ribolla, Istrian Malvasia, Chardonnay and also Merlot along with Cabernet Sauvignon are grown, all following a natural philosophy in which biodynamics are practiced, which earned certification in 2004. An innovative and rigorous style is practiced in the winery where the wines make long macerations on the skins, ferment with indigenous yeasts, clarification and filtration performed before bottling. Among the few ever in the production of bubbles sold to the public to be disgorged at opening, so that purity is the basis that distinguishes them. Enjoyable yet respectable in what is a true art in wine making.
