Masciullo – Negroamaro Salento Igt – 2021

This is an example of how dark, full-bodied wines like Negroamaro can have a more refined, less opulent soul. Masciullo’s style is unmistakable on how he manages to give drinkability and freshness to such complex blends renowned for alcohol content and power, in fact it is one of the main reasons I love this winery. This wine comes from the vineyards around the estate in the Brindisi countryside, produced in about 3,000 bottles with a low yield of 70 quintals per hectare, is vinified in steel tanks and aged in the same containers for at least 9 months. You will find a really balanced version of Negroamaro, it is definitely not a lean wine, but it comes with a rather low alcohol content for this type of grape and the area of production, in the mouth it perfectly expresses both the amabile and dry parts, but its strong point is its great drinkability.
An exception that confirms the greatness of this grape variety!

Description

Masciullo is a true boutique winery! We are located in the Brindisi area, where the Zullo family has been producing oil, fruit, vegetables and wine for at least 30 years in the beautiful setting of an ancient 15th-century farmhouse. For at least a decade, the family has focused on a very high quality production of wines produced in tiny quantities, although there are at least 50 hectares under vine, only 15,000 bottles are put on the market. Thanks to this extreme selection there is the possibility to produce consistently clean and representative wines. The selection is mainly focused on the most famous indigenous grape variety of Salento such as Negroamaro where the winery produces two totally different versions, of course also grapes such as Primitivo, the rare Susumaniello, the white Verdeca, and the international Chardonnay are always vinified in purity.
