Lalu’ – Barolo Le Coste di Monforte – 2019

In the early years of their journey there was the opportunity to be able to acquire some rows of Nebbiolo within the Cru “Le Coste di Monforte” in the lower area of Monforte d’Alba, having the chance to be able to produce the first Barolo. These are 0.3 hectares in the best area with most of the vines dating back to 1999 in suitable southern exposure and an altitude around 400 meters, a hill this one where the presence of clay and limestone is predominant where the wines have considerable tannic texture. Fermentations are carried out entirely in wooden vats in a spontaneous manner without temperature control, after malolactic fermentation there is an aging in Slavonian barrels for 24 months with a subsequent rest in the bottle. Only 2000 units produced, few but good, captivating aromatic profile of spice and underbrush along with an enveloping and persistent drink on the finish.

Description

Lara and Luisa are two true winelovers who after meeting at university embarked on a dream, which is to produce their own wine. Without any farming roots but with great desire and boldness they founded their winery Lalù in 2019 in Serralunga d’Alba, after having had numerous experiences both in the Langa at various wineries and abroad such as in Burgundy, Argentina and South Africa. The first nebbiolo vines were planted in 2015 in la Morra and Monforte d’Alba, and as of today they own 3.5 hectares where there is great love and reverence for the land while respecting nature’s timing in an organic context that preserves the health of things. Their vision lies in interpreting the vintage by following each harvest as sensitively and carefully as possible so that in the winery during vinification the raw material is not altered. Two girls who represent a new generation of women winemakers who have accepted the challenge of winemaking with determination by increasingly breaking through this taboo. An achievement derived from an inverted path, compared to the past, started this time from the city to the countryside, retracing the footsteps of those who were, in search of pure Piedmontese wine expression.
