Ferdinando Principiano – Barolo Ravera di Monforte – 2017

Barolo Ravera comes from the vineyard having the same name, located in the most extreme part of the commune of Monforte d’Alba, famous for its beautiful exposition to sun and its great slope, which is capable of producing full bodied and structured wines also thanks to soils rich in clay and limestone. Planted with 80 year old vines of the rare michet clone, the wine is aged for 24 months in large oak barrels and 2 years in the bottle, creating a complex Barolo that also plays on drinkability. A wine with an intense bouquet and great structure, with enormous potential over time.

Description

Ferdinando Principiano is a real winemaker! Very fond of his vineyards, his wines are genuine and unique. The winery is located in Monforte d’Alba, in the heart of the Barolo area, and in 1993 with all his passion he decided to take over the family business producing excellent wines, but most of all Baroli. After experimenting with the use of barriques and a modernist technique, since the mid 2000’s he completely changed his style by giving priority to the care of the vineyards without using herbicides, and even in the winery the approach started to be traditional and classic: barriques were replaced by big oak barrels, pressing is even done with feet and only indigenous yeasts are used.
As Ferdinando says, his philosophy is not to stress the plant but to accompany and take care of it without being too much interventionist. His wines are clean, pleasing with a great freshness thanks to his style which has become recognizable and unique!
His interpretations of Barolo are incredible, a style all his own, where fragrance and drinkability prevail, despite they are great structured wines, coming from two fantastic cru: La Ravera di Monforte and Boscareto di Serralunga d’Alba.
