Ferdinando Principiano – Barolo Boscareto – 2013

Ferdinando Principiano is a true winemaker! In love with his vineyards, his are genuine and unique wines. The winery is located in Monforte d ‘Alba, in the heart of the Barolo area, and since 1993 with all his passion he decided to take over the family business producing excellent wines, but above all Baroli. After experimenting with the use of barriques and a modernist technique, in the mid-2000s he completely changed style giving priority to the care of the vineyards without the use of herbicides, and even in the cellar the approach began to be traditional and classic: the barriques were replaced with large oak barrels, the pressing is even done with the feet and only indigenous yeasts are used.
As Ferdinando says, his philosophy is not to stress the plant but to accompany and treat it without being too interventionist. His are clean, pleasant wines with a great freshness thanks to his style that has now become recognizable and unique!
His interpretations of the Barolos are incredible, a style all his own, where fragrance and drinkability prevail, despite being great structured wines, coming from two fantastic crus: La Ravera di Monforte and Boscareto di Serralunga d’Alba.
Barolo Boscareto is the wine that best represents Principiano’s style and philosophy! More than 40-year-old vineyard, located on the edge of the Barolo appellation, in the extreme south of Serralunga d’Alba with soils rich in limestone and rock, resulting in super complex, hard and austere Barolos. For this wine, Principiano even carries out the pressing with his feet and makes an aging of 36 months in large oak barrels. A majestic wine! Herbaceous and cherry aromas, harmonious and persuasive wine with austere tannins. Very pleasant to drink, but absolutely to be enjoyed over time!
