Enrico Serafino – Alta Langa Zero 140 Riserva – 2005

Every appellation has its standard-bearer wines, those that stand out from all the others, those that are unique and inimitable, in the case of Alta Langa it is the “Zero 140” which goes beyond the common bubbly trying to extrapolate what is the concept of longevity with an extreme aging never attempted before. A very limited number of bottles per year, it is the blend of 85% Pinot Noir and 15% Chardonnay with 30-year-old vineyards located in the communes of Bubbio, Loazzolo and Mango at altitudes as high as 550 meters. The grapes are carefully selected and gently pressed in an inert environment, vinification takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks then remaining in contact on the lees 6 months performing continuous batonnage. Finally the second fermentation takes place in the bottle where it will remain on the lees 140 months, but what makes this label special is the Zero addition of Liqueur de expedition at the time of the late disgorgement preserving its original integrity as Pas dosé. As can be assumed it has been a great success since the first vintage, time has bestowed complex hints from candied fruit to toasted notes, in the mouth it is creamy, elegant and dynamic in acidity leaving a fantastic final persistence. A worthy rival for any other bubbly in the world.

Description

Enrico Serafino winery is one of the most historical wineries in Roero and Langa, it was founded in 1878 by Enrico himself thanks to his passion and dream of producing great wines. He chose Canale as the headquarters of the winery, a small town located in the center of Roero, but close enough to the Langa of Asti, Barolo and Barbaresco precisely to allow him to produce the greatest wines of Piedmont. Its wines such as Barolo and sparkling wine made history, so much so that they were the first exported outside Europe or drunk by royalty or presidents in Italy.
Today after more than 140 vintages, the winery’s philosophy is still the same, which is to bring up the potential and fame of our wines. In addition, the winery still continues to produce Barolo and Barbaresco thanks to a historic mandate to make wine outside the production area, and it has specialized in the production of bubbles to the extent that it was one of the first to produce Alta Langa sparkling wine.
