Henriot – Champagne Brut Millésime – 2012

The skill in making great Champagnes lies in the ability to cope with adversity; the Millésime 2012 is the result of a complicated vintage climatically where, however, a true jewel was obtained. A Brut dosed blend of 54% Chardonnay and 46% Pinot Noir from 6 parcels between Premier and Grand Cru in which the synergy of these two grape varieties is manifested. Selected grapes fermented in temperature-controlled steel tanks followed by malolactic fermentation in barrels, aging on the lees a minimum of 84 months before disgorging. A rich and enterprising bubble, complex in ripe fruit aromas that evolve as the minutes pass, the palate is mineral with elegant structure and compelling freshness.

Description

Unquestionable charm that of Maison Henriot today, among the oldest in the region in bubbly production and still independently family-owned with no external ties. It was founded in 1808 by Apolline Henriot in Reims eager to pay homage to her region by producing sought-after and refined Champagnes, a legacy passed down over time to future generations (eight so far with current owner Joseph Henriot) allowing the business to expand and grow. The winery owns about 30 hectares divided between the mountain of Reims and the Cote de Blanc with parcels in some of the most important crus where they grow Pinot Noir in the former (Verzenay, Avenay, ect.) and Chardonnay in the latter (Chouilly, Oger, ect.) in addition to a tiny part of Pinot Meunier. A work dedicated to the search for the greatest expression, study and care of the terroir in an organic way, vineyards vinified separately and thanks to today’s winemaker Laurent Fresnet the realization of territorial cuvées and Vin de reserve resulting from blends from the best past vintages.
