Didier Dagueneau – Silex Blanc Fumé de Pouilly – 2016

Silex white wine is entirely produced with Sauvignon Blanc grape, famous because of the type of soil rich in flint (from which the wine takes its name) which is fundamental for the excellent drainage of the plant. The wine undergoes a light maceration on skins and a part of it is fermented in new wooden barrels where the wine lies for about one year. The 2016 vintage was one of the best productions of the last years after Didier’s passing, where elegance and minerality rule the day. A wine that needs no great description. Unique Experience

Description

Didier Dagueneau can be defined as one of the most brilliant wine producers of France. We are in the lowest area of Loire, in the small village of Saint Andelain near Pouilly sur Loire, an area famous worldwide for the quality of Sauvignon Blanc. He prematurely died in 2008, he was and is considered as the king of Sauvignon Blanc, completely changing the worldwide qualitative perception of this blend. His revolutionary way of making wine, has left an important mark in the enology and has produced some of the best white wines of the world! Didier started making wine in the 1980’s, aiming to make quality wines with much lower yields and manual harvesting of the most beautiful bunches, completely redeveloping the little esteemed area in terms of production and quality of the lower Loire, famous more for low alcohol wines produced in mass quantities. It is said his Sauvignons are among the most genuine and representative ones! Even in the cellar he flaunted with macerations in contact with skins in order to extract color and fragrance, whereas vinifications are made in wooden barrels, partly new, just to give more complexity to the final result. Nowadays the winery is run by the two sons who with great honor and humility carry on their father’s dream. Authentic wines which have left their mark! A myth.
