Crissante – Barolo Chinato

A pleasant dessert wine to accompany excellent desserts and more, Crissante’s Barolo Chinato is a real guarantee for this. Of pharmaceutical origins born thanks to the Cappellano family, it is an infusion mainly with China and various natural ingredients made from very old Barolos as age directly from the barrels for a stronger flavor. Crissante uses Barolo from the Galina vineyard near La Morra to which he adds China infusion, roots and local herbs, a recipe perfected over the years. Very impactful on the nose that highlights its complexity at the same time on the palate with persistence and typical bitter taste on the finish.

Description

Immersed in the Langa since its birth, in the village of La Morra is the Crissante winery, a small family business that has carried on the Piedmont tradition of great wines for several generations. Those were the years of the “Malora” (as the writer Beppe Fenoglio wrote), that is, a time of poverty and tragic peasant social conditions in the Langhe, despite these adversities small wineries made their way, determined not to abandon the land but to carry on the production of wines, one of these examples being Barolo. It was founded in 1958 at the Borgata Roggeri di Santa Maria, the year when Crissante Alessandria together with his wife decided to stop selling grapes to large wineries and start their own production. They have always had their own vineyards, which over the years have increased to 6 hectares, moreover a turning point was in the 1980s when they decided on separate vinification of the vineyards increasing quality standards. At the helm today is Michele Alessandria, few labels with limited production where the predominant grape is Nebbiolo along with Barbera and Dolcetto in some of the most renowned Cru such as Capalot. Very careful in the vineyard with natural treatments and choice of fully ripe bunches, traditional style in the wines with long vinifications and the use of oak barrels of various sizes in the aging. We only have to thank the courage and past efforts if today we can tell so many good stories about Barolo.
