Cascina Roccalini – Barbaresco Roccalini – 2022

Barbaresco is produced from the winery’s only vineyard, Roccalini, from which the farmstead of the same name takes its name. It has always been considered one of the most prized vineyards in the Barbaresco wine region, so much so that it caught the attention of the renowned Bruno Giacosa, who leased the vineyards directly from Paolo Veglio’s father until 2003. Located on the southwest slope of the municipality of Barbaresco, it benefits from clay-rich soils, which give the Nebbiolo excellent structure and darker notes. After undergoing spontaneous fermentation in concrete tanks and a 60-day maceration with the cap submerged, the wine was aged for 24 months in large oak barrels and 2 years in the bottle. A fine Barbaresco, with well-defined and deep tannins.

Description

Cascina Roccalini represents the REAL winery of Langa. Managed by Paolo Veglio, a true vigneron of old times, he cultivates with passion for his land the 5 hectares of the family vineyard since he was a child, but only since 2004 he releases his own label. The vineyards are all located in the cru Roccalini (where the winery takes its name) one of the most renowned and qualitative nebbiolo vineyards in Barbaresco, with a perfect south-west exposure and clayey soils. In fact, this vineyard was noticed for the quality of its grapes by the legendary Bruno Giacosa, so much so that Paolo Veglio’s father rented the plot until 2004.
Paolo’s style is simple, low yields, zero use of chemicals, long submerged cap fermentations in cement tanks and aging in large barrels.
His wines are majestic, clean, structured but refined and have become a symbol for the wines of the Langhe.
