Bruno Giacosa – Dolcetto d’Alba – 2025

This is not a typical, ordinary Dolcetto. Despite the wine’s simplicity, the aim was to create a more complex profile than usual, with unique aromas and flavors to accompany everyday moments. The grapes come from several vineyards scattered throughout the Alba area; they are carefully selected and vinified on the skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by two months of aging in oak barrels. It offers beautiful, intense aromas of red fruit; on the palate, it is fresh and approachable, with an absolutely pleasant finish.

Description

When discussing the Bruno Giacosa winery, one is referring to one of the leading producers of exceptional quality in the Langhe region—so much so that it serves as the global standard-bearer for Barbaresco and Barolo wines. Bruno’s story is quite simple and is linked to a particular historical period in Italy, when economic crises and the world wars had a significant impact on the livelihoods of farmers. Born in Neive in 1929, the son of farmers and winemakers, he began his journey in the world of wine thanks to his father’s teachings, traveling throughout the Langa region to select the best grapes. Through this experience, Bruno learned to understand the importance of the sun exposure of Nebbiolo vineyards and to distinguish good grapes from bad ones, eventually beginning to produce a few bottles for himself—wines that were immediately acclaimed by critics for their purity and high quality. It wasn’t until the 1980s that Bruno purchased his first vineyard, “Falletto,” in Serralunga d’Alba for Barolo production; prior to that, his wine production relied on purchasing grapes from suppliers. The purchase of the “Asili” vineyard in Barbaresco, however, took place in 1998. His philosophy regarding winemaking has always been crystal clear, resulting in a style so uniquely defined that it remains readily apparent even today: utmost purity, no chemicals in the vineyard, winemaking with indigenous yeasts, and large oak barrels for aging. Bruno Giacosa taught and contributed so much to the wine world—first in the Langhe and later worldwide—thanks to his extreme elegance, longevity, purity, and humility.
