Chateau Musar – Musar Red – 2016

Chateau Musar Rosso is made from equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan grapes. After fermentation in concrete tanks, the wine ages in French barrels for one year, then the wine spends another year in concrete tanks before being bottled. Only after 4 years of bottle aging is the wine put into bottles.
Very old vines are used for this wine, some even from the 1930s.
Intense, deep wine with velvety but dry tannins, heady aromas of plum, coffee, chocolate and figs. Majestic wine. To keep.

Description

Chateau Musar is one of the iconic winemaking excellences in Lebanon. We are in the Bekaa Valley, a 1,000-meter plateau, an area strongly devoted to viticulture with 6,000 years behind it. Thanks to the wide temperature range between day and night, 300 days of sunshine a year, and harsh winters with mild summers with an average temperature of 25 degrees, here Gaston Hochar laid the foundations to revolutionize the history of Lebanese winemaking. Gaston was a forward-thinking man, thanks to his many studies/travels to France in Bordeaux, he realized in 1930 that he could grow the same international varieties in Lebanon, taking advantage of state-of-the-art techniques with a focus on the ecosystem. Today the winery manages 220 hectares of vineyards, carrying out work only organically, so much so that it boasts firsts as early as the 1950s for organic viticulture, even before it became fashionable.
The wines of Chateau Musar have become a world icon for history and rarity. Immemorial wines, produced with extreme care, with plants from the 1930s and long aging, fine bottles that have the capacity to age for more than 20 years.
