Virna – Barolo Preda Sarmassa – 2008

Virna Borgogno is a true wine producer! First woman to graduate in oenology in 1988 in Italy, she decided to follow in the footsteps of her father Enrico and personally cultivate the vineyard and create wines, but above all great Barolos. His is a historic winery and is located right in the famous town of Barolo, where he vinifies only 10 hectares between the municipalities of Barolo, Novello and Monforte … but above all he cultivates vineyards among the best of the denomination such as the renowned Cannubi, Sarmassa and Prey.
Virna’s style fully identifies her character so tough about her! She cultivates the vineyard like a jewel, and in the cellar she tries to maintain a traditional style but with a slightly modern touch. She likes to create territorial wines, but at the same time drinkable, not too hard!
Barolo Preda Sarmassa comes precisely from the union of these two beautiful vineyards located in the town of Barolo, where a mix of clayey and sandy soils can be found, giving this wine two souls between class and complexity. This wine ages for 24 months in medium-large barrels and the rest in the bottle. Vintage 2008, well what to say … one of the most beautiful … perfect to drink tonight or to keep quietly in the cellar. A wine that seems born a year ago, clean, balsamic and licorice notes, dry, fresh tannins and long persistence accompanied by a nice sensation of roundness. Majestic wine.
