Virna – Barolo del Comune di Barolo – 2020

This Barolo is made from several vineyards located in the commune of Barolo to enhance the organoleptic characteristics due to the medium-textured soils of this area. The vineyards used are all first class, such as Preda, Sarmassa and Cannubi, vinified separately to keep well intact their own characteristics that each vineyard gives, only blended before bottling. Despite being a classic assemblage Barolo, it presents itself as a fairly complex wine, given by the grandeur of the plots used where, thanks to the south/east exposure and clay/sandy soils, very balsamic, mentholated notes are enhanced, with well-defined straight tannins, while still maintaining a distinct freshness.

Description

Virna Borgogno is a true winemaker! The first woman to graduate in oenology in 1988 in Italy, she decided to follow in her father Enrico’s footsteps and personally cultivate the vineyard and create wines, but especially great Baroli. Hers is a historic winery and is located right in the famous town of Barolo, where she vinifies only 10 hectares between the municipalities of Barolo, Novello and Monforte….but above all she cultivates vineyard plots among the best in the appellation such as the renowned Cannubi, Sarmassa and Preda.
Virna’s style fully identifies her character so badass! She cultivates the vineyard like a little gem, and in the winery she tries to maintain a traditional style but with a slightly modern twist. She likes to create wines that are territorial, but at the same time drinkable, not too hard!
