Vietti – Barolo Monvigliero – 2018

The historicity of Monvigliero makes it a much-desired vineyard among Barolo producers, certainly the ultimate expression of elegance in the commune of Verduno. Just as with Cerequio, here the Vietti winery produced its first label with the 2018 vintage, a few bottles but superb thanks to the 50-plus-year-old vines facing southeast and the marl and sand soils. Carefully selected grapes that are vinified (60% whole cluster) in contact with the skins in steel tanks for four weeks always adopting the submerged cap method, while malolactic fermentation and aging take place in oak barrels for 24 months. Egregious result for the delicacy this Barolo takes on, fruity notes surrounded by spices that give more intensity, on the palate it proves fresh and harmonious with deep acidity and silky tannins.

Description

We are talking about the end of the 1800s, when Carlo Vietti founded the winery in the small town of Castiglione Falletto, immediately realizing the great potential that territory could have. From 1919 his son Mario began to produce the first wines. The winery’s history, however, was marked by the great winemaker Alfredo Currado, the first ever to vinify the individual vineyards individually, and in 1961 the Barolo “Rocche di Castiglione” was thus released on the market.
Today the winery is one of the most important in the entire Barolo area, in fact since 2016 it has been purchased by the American Krause Holdings, thus allowing the family to expand their assets while continuing to produce wines of great territoriality and value.
