Stefano Porro – Barbera d’Alba Superiore – 2022

Since 2021 Stefano Porro has been producing a few bottles of Barbera, adding an extra treat to the range. These are at least 50-year-old Barbera vines located in the commune of Serralunga, where production mounts to about 1,000 bottles a year. As far as winemaking is concerned, the wine carries out part of the fermentation with the whole bunch in cement tanks, then ages for 7 months in used barriques before bottling. Given the deep limestone soils of Serralunga, we find a Barbera with good body, despite the very intense aromas of violets and dark fruit, in the mouth as well as having great juiciness it has great acidity that makes the wine perfectly balanced. Another great new discovery

Description

One of the new young minds on the Langhe wine scene, Stefano Porro is part of the latest generation of winemakers with a desire to make his mark right away. Born in 1993, his family has always been linked to the world of wine, ending up passionate about it as well, in the past in fact they were grape growers without ever having thought of producing it. The turning point came in 2018 when Stefano inherited nebbiolo vineyards in Serralunga d’Alba at Cerrati (owned by his grandfather), very old plants in excellent exposure that he rearranges producing his first label in 2020. Few bottles produced, a lot of resourcefulness in the work from the vineyard to the winery, a lot of extraction in the vinification and use of oak barrels. It is only the beginning but it already looks great.
