Roberto Voerzio – Barolo Vecchie Viti Capalot e delle Brunate – 2001 – MG

Roberto Voerzio, an icon of avant-garde viticulture in the Langhe. His style is unique, his love for wine and the land have led him to produce great wines. The facts are clear, 8000 vines per hectare, super selection of the bunches, aggressive thinning, 500 grams of grapes per plant (traditionally Piedmontese winemakers harvest about 2 kilograms). The work in the vineyards is more than maniacal, his plants are immediately recognizable by their cleanliness and order, and the philosophy of using only organic products and manure for the wellness of the vines does not go unnoticed.
He founded his winery in the 1980’s by buying the best vineyards with the most beautiful expositions, producing limited quantities for each cru with an amazing and unparalleled power and structure.
Brunate, La Serra, Cerequio, Rocche dell’Annunziata and Fossati are the homonymous vineyards in which he vinifies in purity the many cru, all located in La Morra and always considered the most prestigious ones for the quality of grapes.
Barolo Vecchie Viti Capalot and delle Brunate was produced from 1995 to the mid 2000’s only in magnum size, the best for keeping wines. Two micro-pieces of vineyard united, all located in La Morra, but with different characteristics: Capalot gives elegant wines but with a dry tannin, Brunate enjoys a perfect southern exposure and gives nebbiolos although very fragrant but with a slightly harder character. The wine is aged for 24 months in barrique, plus a long aging in steel tanks and bottle. A Barolo with structure, balsamic notes, austere, refined, with great sweetness on the finish.
In 2001 you will find a full wine, but you will be surprised by its freshness. To drink, but also to keep!
