Roberto Voerzio – Barolo Sarmassa – 2009 – MG

Roberto Voerzio, an icon of avant-garde viticulture in the Langhe. His style is unique, his love for wine and the land have led him to produce great wines. The facts are clear, 8000 vines per hectare, super selection of the bunches, aggressive thinning, 500 grams of grapes per plant (traditionally Piedmontese winemakers harvest about 2 kilograms). The work in the vineyards is more than maniacal, his plants are immediately recognizable by their cleanliness and order, and the philosophy of using only organic products and manure for the wellness of the vines does not go unnoticed.
He founded his winery in the 1980’s by buying the best vineyards with the most beautiful expositions, producing limited quantities for each cru with an amazing and unparalleled power and structure.
Brunate, La Serra, Cerequio, Rocche dell’Annunziata and Fossati are the homonymous vineyards in which he vinifies in purity the many cru, all located in La Morra and always considered the most prestigious ones for the quality of grapes.
Barolo Sarmassa comes from the highest part of the homonymous cru, located in the commune of Barolo, with soils rich in clay, gives Nebbiolo balsamic aromas and vertical and silky tannins. This wine is produced only in magnum size in about 800 bottles and it is aged for 24 months in barrique, 8 months in steel tanks and the remaining part in bottle. This 2009 Barolo is a full bodied wine, with balsamic and tobacco notes, persistent, energetic with a nice finesse on the finish. A Bomb of wine.
