Roberto Voerzio – Barolo Rocche dell’Annunziata Torriglione – 2009

Roberto Voerzio, an icon of avant-garde viticulture in the Langhe. His style is unique, his love for wine and the land have led him to produce great wines. The facts are clear, 8000 vines per hectare, super selection of the bunches, aggressive thinning, 500 grams of grapes per plant (traditionally Piedmontese winemakers harvest about 2 kilograms). The work in the vineyards is more than maniacal, his plants are immediately recognizable by their cleanliness and order, and the philosophy of using only organic products and manure for the wellness of the vines does not go unnoticed.
He founded his winery in the 1980’s by buying the best vineyards with the most beautiful expositions, producing limited quantities for each cru with an amazing and unparalleled power and structure.
Brunate, La Serra, Cerequio, Rocche dell’Annunziata and Fossati are the homonymous vineyards where he vinifies in purity the various cru, all located in La Morra and always considered the most prestigious ones for the quality of grapes.
Barolo Rocche dell’Annunziata Torriglione comes from the combination of these two vineyards: Rocche dell’Annunziata located in the highest part of the vineyard enjoys a full south position with sandy soils giving elegance and finesse to Nebbiolo, Torriglione is the continuation of cru Rocche but has steeper sides and slightly harder soils, giving more complexity and less finesse to the wines. In this case the wine was aged for 24 months in used barriques and in large oak casks. It is a wine which expresses all the pleasantness and elegance of La Morra’s soils. A Must.
In 2009 you will find a slightly more ready and creamy wine that is absolutely perfect to enjoy now.
