Roberto Voerzio – Barbera d’Asti Superiore – 2021

Monferrato is the home of Barbera. The area of Asti has always been its best expression for quality, complexity and longevity in fact the cold climates and poor soils increase these components, it is no coincidence that Roberto Voerzio himself decided to start a new adventure here as well. The latest addition to his selection of great wines, he being an egregious Barberaist put himself to the test by taking the opportunity to buy some plots near Canelli and Nizza Monferrato. They were vineyards around 35 years old where the old planting was downsized following his modus operandi of 3500 to 8000 vines per hectare with a production of less than 1 kg per plant. Fermentation and maceration are carried out in steel tanks taking advantage of indigenous yeasts, malolactic and aging are carried out in barriques for 12 months (70% used) and then rest in steel a few months before bottling without filtration. We are talking about yet another amazing label from a producer who continues to enchant year after year, the complexity of the aromas varies from ripe red fruit to notes of spice and vanilla while on the palate it is straightforward showing good structure, very lively for the acidity, deep and concentrated in flavor. A few years and it will be an explosion of magnificence reflecting Roberto’s passion and work in every aspect.

Description

Roberto Voerzio, an icon of avant-garde viticulture in the Langhe. His style is unique, his love for wine and the land have led him to produce grandiose wines. The facts speak for themselves, 8000 vines per hectare, super bunch selection, aggressive thinning, 500 grams of grapes per plant ( traditionally Piedmontese winemakers harvest about 2 kilograms). His work in the vineyards is more than manic, his plants are immediately recognizable by their cleanliness and tidiness, and the philosophy of using only organic products and manure for the well-being of the vines does not go unnoticed at all.
He founded his winery in the 1980s by buying the best vineyards with the most beautiful exposures, producing limited quantities for each cru with amazing and unparalleled power and structure.
Brunate, La Serra,Cerequio, Rocche dell’Annunziata and Fossati are the namesake vineyards where he vinifies in purity the various cru, all located in La Morra and always considered the most prestigious for the quality of the grapes.
