Roagna – Derthona Montemarzino – 2020
Timorasso is certainly one of the most respectable white grape varieties in Piedmont, thanks to its complexity and ability to give remarkable results over time. The Roagna winery, thanks to a vineyard inherited from a cousin, has been producing a few thousand bottles since 2014 in a small one-hectare plot located in Montemarzino ( Tortonese hills ) at an altitude of 400 meters. Luca Roagna relied on the vate Walter Massa for the production of this white, thanks to his extreme knowledge about this grape variety and terroir. After spontaneous fermentation in wooden vats, the wine is aged for 2 years in neutral barrels. Here we do not find a simple white wine, it could be compared to a Grand Burgundy for longevity and structure, where notes of grapefruit and almond mingle with saline notes, and pulp.

Description
Roagna Winery is located in the heart of the Langhe, in Barbaresco. The year of its birth dates back to 1880, a history made of hard work, deep love for the land and the right innovation to search for sublime quality. Biodiversity has always been a fundamental aspect in which the winery has believed absolutely, in fact the work in the vineyard is maniacal, the youngest plants are forty years old, no fertilizing, no watering, no topping, moreover the selection is massal and not clonal. In the winery, the rules do not change, on the contrary, the pied de cuve of indigenous yeasts is used to start the fermentation, maceration on the skins with submerged cap for more than two months and to finish very long maturations; in fact, the wines are always put on sale at least a ‘year later than the disciplinary says . Today the winery is led by Luca, who now represents the fifth generation, and his father Alberto, we can define them as winemakers from another era because they are true connoisseurs of their vineyards and their land.
