Piero Busso – Barbaresco Albesani Viti Vecchie Riserva – 2019
Let’s talk about another of the most important vineyards in the Barbaresco appellation, Albesani is absolute quality and origin from the Piero Busso winery, yet another demonstration of how Neive is a key area for Nebbiolo. This label was created as a tribute to the founder and grandfather Guido, a limited production of about 900 bottles using the first vineyard planted in the 1940s, less than one hectare available on clay and silt soils. A very refined and complex expression at the same time, fermentations take place in steel tanks with long macerations on the skins, aging in large barrels and resting in bottles for 3 years. Supersonic wine, certainly reflects the family’s philosophy, great aromatic bouquet of spices and herbs with incredible freshness on the palate, persistent tannins and excellent structure that promises long evolution. Milestone!

Description
Among the countless stories of the Langa there is one that has always fascinated me because of its genuine tradition that has never changed for more than 70 years, it is the Piero Busso winery, Piedmontese by birth and in fact. Founded in 1948 in Neive on the Albesani hill by Guido Busso, a hard worker and intelligent farmer as he was already beginning to enhance the quality of Nebbiolo by locating the most suitable areas. The winery passed into the hands of his son Piero, who, following his father’s teachings, decided to produce a Barbaresco that would be a photocopy of the terroir; thus it was that the first vintage of Albesani was released in 1982. Over the years specific plots have been purchased so as to respect a small and family size, today in fact there are 10 hectares where the Gallina and San Stunet vineyards are also included for a limited production each year, not only Nebbiolo but also Barbera, Chardonnay and Sauvignon blanc. A very natural style of approach with little intervention following a certified organic regime, no use of chemicals so as to preserve the link with the territory typical of the wines, very low yields and in the cellar they work traditional without too much use of technology with long macerations and the use of large barrels in the aging without ever filtering each wine so as to make them even more essential. Purely family-run even today where they pay homage to their past, a small producer who has now become one of the Greats for Barbaresco, this is Piero Busso!
