Paitin – Barbera d’Alba Superiore Campolive – 2020

Of the selection of red wines certainly a label worth tasting, a superior barbera that tonally enhances Paitin’s terroir and philosophy. It has been produced since 1991 from very steep vineyards on the border between Serraboella and Bricco di Neive, an area once used for olive growing because of favorable climatic conditions, hence the name “Campolive.” Thanks to the southwest exposure and the age of the plants of 50 years there is a good ripening with defined quantities, the grapes are vinified in steel tanks for two weeks then aging is at least 12 months in 10-hectoliter Slavonian barrels. A bottle that possesses an intriguing drinkability for its juiciness, classic notes of red fruit and spice while the palate does not disappoint having body and a crackling acidity.

Description

When one speaks of Paitin, one cannot help but associate this name with Barbaresco.
One of the wineries with the most history, handed down for two centuries and owner of the Serraboella vineyard since 1800, where the winery headquarters still reside. This area is particularly suited for the production of nebbiolo for Barbaresco, precisely because it enjoys an unusual microclimate, that is, soils rich in layers of blue limestone beyond the sands, giving the wines an important and atypical structure and longevity. The approach in the vineyard is minimalist intervening only with the use of copper and sulfur, indeed since 2015 the winery has focused on an organic approach. In the winery, on the other hand, the style is purely traditional, with long aging in large barrels, respecting the natural timing of each wine. Classic, authentic, territorial wines, where you can feel the real history and Langa. Wines that personally drive me crazy, for their longevity, austerity, class and sensuality.
