Olivier Leflaive – Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru – 2012

Chardonnay’s largest Grand Cru appellation where, however, the quality of its wines is not lost in the slightest. Formed by the villages of Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses and Ladoix-Serrigny (the so-called Poggio di Corton) each of which has its own geological characteristics with different exposures but which give the wines excellent flavor textures. The Leflaive family manages a few plots in each of them, the vines have an average age of 50 years where this wine comes from the cuvée of the three zones with always limited production. Grapes harvested by hand and immediately crushed of which half are whole cluster, fermentation in steel tanks and malolactic in wood followed by barrel aging for 18 months. A true gem of taste and world-class quality, the bouquet is complex with gentle notes of white fruit and mineral sensations, possesses excellent length and structure on the palate, prestige and class surround it all heralding great evolution over the years.

Description

We are in the village of Puligny-Montrachet, a tiny hamlet, but of absolute importance, here are the most exclusive and important GRAND CRUs in all of Burgundy for the Chardonnay grape variety.
The historic Leflaive family, which has always owned vineyards, was also born here. In the 1980s Olivier Leflaive, had a desire to have his own label and winery, so he began to select the best plots and then produce great wines.
The Leflaive winery today makes wine from 120 hectares of vines including 17 of its own divided among the best villages of Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet and Meursault, in Chablis and the Côte Chalonnaise.
The choice of grape purchasing is highly selected thanks to historic partnerships with various suppliers, where special attention is paid to vineyard work by encouraging biodynamic viticulture.
One of the world’s leading brands of Burgundy wines.
