Mastrojanni – Rosso di Montalcino – 2018

If we talk about Mastrojanni’s wines we are certainly mentioning the winery which contributed to make the history of Brunello di Montalcino. In 1975 the Roman lawyer Gabriele Mastrojanni bought the estate of San Pio and Loreto in Montalcino at 400 meters of altitude, an area which has always been suited for the production of wine, but not much explored. It was a far-sighted choice, as in those years there were very few wine producers in the area. His dream was to make the best Brunello ever, as a matter of fact a few years later he succeeded in making it, creating extraordinary wines, fine and refined with a great potential. In the 1990’s the winery became part of the Illy group, without changing the philosophy and the quality of the production, on the contrary it improved the work in the vineyard by aiming to a more and more organic agriculture and in the winery the exclusive use of vitrified cement tanks was adopted in order to keep cooler temperatures during fermentations.

Their Rosso di Montalcino, like all large companies, is simply the wine that ages for less than a year in cask, but the plants are the same as Brunello… simply a downgraded Brunello! A wine that plays more on drinkability and freshness!
