Luigi Pira – Barolo Marenca – 2016

The Pira Luigi winery is located in Serralunga d’Alba, an area renowned for the power of the Barolos.
Until the 1990s, the family sold grapes, but things changed with the arrival of Luigi’s son, Giampaolo. He decided to produce great wines, but above all Baroli, thanks also to the potential of his own vineyards, considered among the most famous in the entire Langa … such as the renowned Vignarionda, Marenca and Margheria.
He’s Barolos are tough, hard, spicy and above all tannic! This is thanks to the rocky limestone soils of the Serralunga area. He tries to make clean and representative wines, precisely to enhance each specific characteristic that each vineyard gives.
Barolo Marenca is one of the most important crus of Serralunga … only two producers own this magnificent vineyard: Gaja and Luigi Pira. A vineyard of character, despite being the continuation of the Margheria cru, it is slightly more sheltered and enjoys a beautiful exposure. The wines here are harder, forget the elegant sensations … sharp tannins and good body are the characteristics of this wine.
