Josetta Saffirio – Barolo Persiera Castelletto – 2018
One of the estate’s most representative Barolo wines, whose grapes come from south-east facing vineyards located in Monforte d’Alba, sub-zone Castelletto, where the steep hills and clayey soils toast the wines good body. After manual harvesting, the grapes are vinified in steel vats where they undergo both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation before being placed in barrels. Refinement is done in both new and used wood for 24 months, it is then stabilised in cement for 6 months before being bottled for a further 6 months to refine. The final product is a Barolo with a strong personality, with good body and great structure where the intense spicy notes and the rich tannin blend into an unusual elegance.

Description
With two centuries of history and five generations under its belt, Josetta Saffirio is the typical small family-run winery in the Langa region. It was founded in 1945, the year in which Ernesto Saffirio, after the war, acquired the property he had inherited from his brothers in the hamlet of Castelletto, in Monforte d’Alba, for a total of 5 hectares. Deeply attached to the territory and its fortunes in the family vineyards, he passed on this passion to his daughter Josetta, who at a very young age decided to start the family wine production. A woman of the Langa with great courage, she will leave her mark on the world of wine thanks to a rare ability in the cellar where, in the 1990s, her Barolo and her famous labels will become known to all. A tradition handed down and modernised in style and outlook by her daughter Sara Vezza, who consolidated the foundations in an all-female line. A philosophy of bonding and love for the land, where an eco-sustainable programme, organic certifications and modern techniques have established the cornerstones for quality production. The necessary work in the cellar accompanied by delicate vinification and ageing in new and used barrels have preserved and expanded the territorial identity. A real look to the future, the result of responsibility and inherited dedication.
