Il Paradiso di Manfredi – Brunello di Montalcino – 2012

Paradiso di Manfredi is a very small winery managed at family level with the highest meticulousness, located in the north-east side of Montalcino. The winery was born thanks to Manfredi Martini and his wife Fortunata, two expert farmers who in 1950 bought the historical Paradiso estate with only 3.5 hectares of vineyards and fields. Moreover Manfredi Martini was a pretty important figure for the quality and the promotion of Montalcino wines, in fact he was one of the founders in 1967 of the consortium of Brunello di Montalcino.
The winery has always followed a pretty clean production philosophy, using green manure and treatments with copper and sulfur in very low quantities, low yields, green pruning, and in the cellar spontaneous fermentations with the use of indigenous yeasts. For the aging the style has remained traditional, according to the production disciplinary for Rosso, Brunello or Riserva, the permanence in big casks changes. Moreover there is no distinction of vineyard or plant for the three different types of wine, only the length of aging changes.
These are explicitly territorial wines, to be tasted at least once in a lifetime…deep and structured! Great capacity of aging.
Brunello di Montalcino comes from 30 years old vineyards and it is produced only in 7000 bottles. The wine is aged for 36 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, plus the remaining time in bottle. It presents itself as an austere wine, but with sweet tannins and a nice smoothness, aromas of black cherry and tobacco. What a History.
