Il Carnasciale – Carnasciale Toscana IGT – 2015

With a limited production of just a few thousand bottles per year, Carnasciale is one of only three labels produced by the winery that represents the result of right intuition. Produced with 100% Caberlot grapes from steep sandy slopes, after the right phenolic maturation they are vinified in steel in contact with the skins with continuous punching down. The malolactic fermentation and the refinement are carried out in French oak barrels Vosges and Troncais for about 18 months and then continue without filtrations in the bottle for 6 months. The wine immediately shows its prestige, with aromas ranging from blackcurrant to strawberry, tobacco and mint, a lot of complexity and body with an energetic tannin, a synthesis of its power.

Description

To define this tiny, unique and marvellous reality is almost reductive, a small masterpiece born from a gamble taken by destiny, this is Podere il Carnasciale. The winery was founded in Mercatale Valdarno, near Arezzo in the heart of Tuscany, where in the early 1980s the German Rogosky family and oenologist Peter Schilling decided to focus on a new grape variety: Caberlot. This is a rediscovered hybrid, born in the 1960s near Padua from the spontaneous and accidental union of Cabernet Franc and Merlot, on which Wolf Rogosky decided to focus by replanting it at a high density on his farm made up only of olive groves. Schedula with the first bottle on the market in 1988 with great success, today Caberlot is a unique variety grown exclusively by this winery in just 4.5 hectares, where it has found the perfect habitat in which to grow, consisting of sandy soils and cool climates. The introduction of organic farming, low yields and meticulous work in the cellar during vinification and ageing, spread over just two labels, have made it a true Tuscan bastion. The key to the triumph has always been “Improving over the years” so as to guarantee the highest quality of this unique and rare wine, which has made it a much sought-after piece for collectors.
