Guido Rivella – Langhe Nebbiolo – 2018

An entry-level wine that is a foretaste, however, of how refined bottles are made according to Guido. Slightly unusual in that it features 90% Nebbiolo with an addition of 10% Barbera with young vineyards located in the Cru of Montestefano, famous for giving wines with elegance but firm to the drink because of the clay/limestone soils. Grapes processed separately, vinified in steel tanks for about 18 days with subsequent aging in barrels for 6 to 12 months before blending and bottling. Enterprising bottle from the first sip, notes of berries blended with spicy notes, it is dry with personality but nevertheless soft on the palate in a complex of great harmony.

Description

Guido Rivella’s is an example of how one is born predestined to do a job, his that of a winemaker in one of the most emblematic regions for wine production as Piedmont. Descended from a family of farmers, he graduated in oenology from the University of Alba and carried out numerous experiences outside the region, acquiring remarkable skills. Shortly afterwards he was recalled and hired by Gaja as oenologist at his winery, remaining there for 45 years full of achievements and satisfaction from which he perfected his knowledge. The turning point came in 2010 when he decided to start his own business, inheriting a small farmhouse in Barbaresco along with some vineyards in the Montestefano cru. In 3 hectares Nebbiolo and Barbera are grown for an annual production of 20000 bottles where Barbaresco occupies the majority of the quantities, there is great care of the soils with natural methods, thinning of the bunches and use of small woods for aging. Wines that are distinguished by refined aromas in unique ways that make the Rivella family a quality guarantee of the Langhe.
