Guado al Tasso – Matarocchio Bolgheri Superiore – 2015

“It is the Matarocchio” one always exclaims when talking about one of the most incredible bottles of the Bolgheri DOC born at the behest of Piero Antinori himself, a pure Cabernet Franc such as is not produced anywhere else synthesis of work and perseverance. Certainly not an easy grape to process and interpret, in this case it is quite the opposite, it is made from a micro plot where the plants are well exposed on stony ground and from which only the best bunches with the perfect and desired ripeness are taken. The grapes are lightly pressed where, after a cold pre-maceration, alcoholic fermentation takes place in steel tanks, malolactic fermentation and aging are carried out in new French oak barriques for 18 months followed by another 12 months in the bottle. Difficult to describe it in a few words, a wine produced only in amazing vintages with a few thousand units from the best barriques after numerous tastings, aromas of great complexity where chocolate and coffee notes stand out, on the palate it is egregious and voluptuous with silky tannins and dizzying persistence. Its aging potential is obvious due to its integrity, for true lovers it is on the wish list.

Description

The Antinori family remains among the few wine estates with a multi-purpose mold that produces masterworks in all the wine-growing areas in which it takes root, demonstrating an innate ability to enhance grapes in different territories. Tenuta Guado al Tasso is one of many estates in Tuscany but among the most important ones being an institution of DOC Bolgheri, a must for “Supertuscans,” since it was established in 1994. Centuries-old history behind it has always belonged to the della Gherardesca family, which began viticulture in 1833, things changed rapidly when Carlotta, the mother of the current owner Piero Antinori, inherited the land in the 1930s, then increasing viticultural development together with her husband. There are 320 hectares planted with vines in Alta Maremma around 50 meters above sea level that enjoy an almost unique microclimate due to coastal breezes and soils of alluvial origin ideal for growing grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Syrah and Vermentino.
Wines with a distinctly Mediterranean character made of power, elegance and balance are produced in this natural amphitheater.Work in the vineyards is aimed at making only quality through thinning and natural practices to preserve the uniqueness of each grape variety while modern techniques and the use of French barrique in aging are employed in the winery. Emblem and pedestal of this appellation.
