Gian Luca Colombo – Verduno Pelaverga – 2022

Compared to other varieties in the area, Pelaverga is very circumscribed between the municipalities of Verduno and Roddi, a very simple and easy wine on the whole but in Gianluca Colombo’s version novelty was sought. Vineyards near Roddi in excellent south/south-east exposure, selection of the best grapes which are vinified in temperature-controlled steel tanks for about 30 days, then the wine is aged in terracotta amphorae for a variable period depending on the vintage. This is a real plunge into the past, a return to the origins to obtain a purer and more characteristic product, classic spicy aromas with notes of red fruit, a harmonious and pleasant drink with good acidic texture on the finish. Interesting!

Description

A true man of Langa who grew up in contact with a reality of great winemaking tradition, Gianluca Colombo became yet another enthusiast who soon made it a full-time job and a new brand of life. After graduating in oenology in Alba and consulting at various wineries, his company saw the light in 2011 in Roddi together with his wife where he focused on the Pinot Noir variety as the starting point of his project. From a purely agricultural mood and with limited production, his wines are very territorial where respect for the environment in its diversity is at the base following a philosophy without preconceptions where nature and its rhythms count. In fact, the wine itself presents its own evolution where vinifications change every year, no clarifications and filtrations are made, there is no predominant use of wood but it is only interpretation of the succession of events. Great care and commitment to obtain a wine that reflects grape variety, terroir and vintage fruit of one of the many stories of Langa.
