Gian Luca Colombo – Barolo – 2019

His first label of Barolo was released in 2016, where he immediately showed a good hand in handling the Nebbiolo in its various phases, obtaining good awards. With vineyards from the areas of Roddi, La Morra and Monforte from the cru of Bricco Ambrogio, Roere di Santa Maria and Bussia in excellent southern exposures, depending on the year there is more selection of the best grapes. Fermentation and maceration from 20 to 60 days at a controlled temperature in steel with refinement in Austrian oak for 24 months where, before being bottled, it stabilises in cement or terracotta for a short period. The 2017 vintage, characterised by little rain, has given us wines that are more ready to drink, in which the thin soils have given the wine intense fruit aromas and good acidity balanced by delicate tannins in a mix of total elegance and power.

Description

A true man of the Langa who grew up in contact with a reality of great winemaking tradition, Gianluca Colombo became yet another enthusiast who soon turned it into a full-time job and a new way of life. After graduating in oenology in Alba and working as a consultant for various wineries, his company was founded in 2011 in Roddi with his wife, where he focused on the Pinot Noir variety as the starting point for his project. From a purely agricultural mood and with limited production, his wines are very territorial in which respect for the environment in all its diversity is at the base, following a philosophy without preconceptions where nature and its rhythms count. In fact, the wine itself presents an evolution where the vinification changes every year, there are no clarifications or filtrations, there is no predominant use of wood but only the interpretation of the succession of events. Great attention and commitment to obtain a wine that reflects the vine, terroir and vintage, fruit of one of the many stories of the Langa.
