Giacomo Grimaldi – Barolo Sotto Castello di Novello – 2016

The Giacomo Grimaldi winery was founded in 1930 in the municipality of Barolo, after three generations, Ferruccio Grimaldi is now fully involved in the vineyards, cellar work and producing great wines such as Barolo. The company is family-run, producing few but good gems. The vineyards are all located in the Barolo area between the municipalities of Monforte, Novello and obviously Barolo country, but also in the nearby Roero in the Vezza d’Alba area with the prestigious Valmaggiore vineyard, famous for giving elegance and refinement to the Nebbioli.
Barolo Sotto Castello comes from the vineyard of the same name, located in the municipality of Novello. A beautiful vineyard slightly hidden and wild where you can still see some woods nearby and you can breathe fresh air, but with great southern exposure and soils rich in clay. The result of this cru is austere, gritty wines, with a beautiful final timbre and balsamic and rosehip notes … and that’s exactly what you will find when tasting Ferruccio’s Barolo! In this case, the wine ages for 24 months partly in small and partly large barrels, just to leave a nice creaminess to the Nebbiolo and a lighter drink. 7000 bottles produced in this fantastic 2016 vintage.
