G.D. Vajra – Barolo Bricco delle Viole – 2017

The “Bricco delle Viole” comes from the oldest vineyards of the estate, which are also the last to see the harvest; a unique and dangerous characteristic at the same time, because in autumn the climate can change quickly. The grapes undergo fermentation and maceration for 30/40 days in contact with the skins, the malolactic fermentation and refinement then take place in large Slavonian barrels for 24 months before passing into the bottle. One of the best expressions of absolute finesse, fruity scents alternate with balsamic notes showing the balance and softness of this wine with a classy finish thanks to the velvety tannins. A risk well worth it.

Description

Now an internationally famous name, with a past of great tradition but now distinguished by its avant-garde style. The company was founded in 1972, when Aldo Vaira decided to stop selling grapes and start making wine with a mix of tradition and experimentation. Located in Vergne, it has 60 hectares, but they still like to define themselves as a family farm accompanied by a young and dynamic team. The vineyards are mainly located in three municipalities of the Barolo DOCG: Novello with the Ravera cru, Barolo with the Bricco delle Viole, Fossati and Coste di Rose crus and finally Serralunga d’Alba with Cerretta and Baudana. Respect for the land, without the use of chemicals, and the deep link to its origins have always accompanied the philosophy of the winery. Old-fashioned work in the vineyards to preserve their innate quality gives their wines common characteristics of elegance, complexity and delicacy and reflects the result of an image they have built up step by step over the years.
