G.D. Vajra – Barolo Bricco delle Viole – 2013

The company was founded in 1972, when Aldo Vaira decided not to sell the grapes anymore but to start making wine and producing wine with a mix of tradition and innovation. Today the company has 60 hectares but they still like to define themselves as a family farm accompanied by a young and dynamic team. The vineyard heritage mainly affects three municipalities of the Barolo DOCG: Novello with the Ravera cru, Barolo with the Bricco delle Viole cru, Fossati and Coste di Rose and finally Serralunga d’Alba with Cerretta and Baudana. Respect for the land and the deep bond to its origins have always accompanied the philosophy of the winery. All wines have common characteristics of elegance, complexity and delicacy. Of the four mentions of the western side of the municipality of Barolo, Bricco delle Viole is by far the best known thanks in particular to the excellent results obtained over the years by Aldo Vaira. even the last to see the harvest; a unique and dangerous feature at the same time, because in autumn the climate can change quickly. The risk, however, brings with it a remarkable aromatic texture and a unique finesse. The 2013 vintage brought us back to the past, when Nebbiolo was harvested in late October, but this delay made it possible to achieve an excellent concentration of aromas, coloring matter and sugars. In short, a structured and long-lived vintage, we can undoubtedly say “classic”!
